For as long as almost anybody can remember, The Wheel House Restaurant and Guest House has dominated the West Wharf of Mevagissey Harbour. In it’s former days as a Net Loft, John Wesley is reported to have made his first Sermon in Mevagissey here and ironically it is the pews from the old Wesleyan Chapel in Mevagissey that now furnish the Lower Deck. In 1967 the Queen Mum came to visit and although several refurbishments have taken place over the years the Restaurant has remained much the same as it was then
None of this should distract you however from the real business of the Wheel House, their reputation for Fresh Fish and Fresh Produce turned into a great value Menu with something for everyone. The Wheel House is one of three Restaurants owned by a family partnership. The others being Quay West Wine Bar which is next to the Wheel House and Wreckers Bistro on Charlestown Harbour. Last year the partnership became Fish Merchants in their own right to secure the ongoing purchase of Fresh Fish straight from the Boats as it is landed right in front of the Wheel House. Every evening the names of the Boats that have landed Fish to the Restaurants is posted outside the Wheel House. Staff can point out the Boat that caught your fish and you can often watch Fish being landed as you Dine. Chef’s catch of the day Fresh Fish Specials are offered both at lunch and Dinner. For the less Fishy there is plenty of Choice on the Menu of Cornish Meats and Vegetarian Dishes. To complement the Menu there is a carefully selected Wine list from Fowey Wines, Draught Beers and Cornish Real Ales.
The Wheel House opens for Breakfast at 9.00 a.m. and seves food all day alongside Coffees and Cream Teas. Evening service for Dinner starts at 6.00 p.m.
Note: from Mid November to the beginning of March, the Wheel House Restaurant is Closed for Dinner, except from 27 to 31 December inclusive when it is also open for New Year's Eve.
